Question 39

The following equation is incorrect. Which two signs should be interchanged to correct the equation?
32 ÷ 16 - 5 x 8 + 2 = 13

Solution

Expression : 32 ÷ 16 - 5 x 8 + 2 = 13

(A) : + and ÷

L.H.S. = $$32+16-5\times8\div2$$

= $$48-\frac{40}{2}=28\neq$$ R.H.S.

(B) : + and x

L.H.S. = $$32\div16-5+8\times2$$

= $$2-5+16=13=$$ R.H.S.

=> Ans - (B)
