Question 29

Someone had locked the classroom.

  • Locate the Subject (someone), Verb (locked), and Object (classroom).
  • The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
  • The tense of the "be" verb must match the tense of the active sentence. (past perfect- had locked)
  • The original subject (someone) is introduced with "by" (or dropped if unknown/unimportant), dropped here, since there is unknown person (someone)
