Of the 3 numbers whose average is 72, the first is 2/7 times the sum of other 2. The first number is

Solution

Let the three numbers be $$x,y,z$$

Sum of three numbers = $$x + y + z = 72 \times 3 = 216$$

According to ques, => $$x = \frac{2}{7} \times (y + z)$$

=> $$x = \frac{2}{7} \times (216 - x)$$

=> $$7x = 432 - 2x$$

=> $$7x + 2x = 9x = 432$$

=> $$x = \frac{432}{9} = 48$$
