Question 24

How many kg of rice at Rs. 60 per kg, must be mixed with 30 kg of rice at Rs. 25 per kg, so that the shopkeeper may make a gain 25% on selling the mixture at Rs. 50 per kg?

The shopkeeper gains 25% by selling at 50 per kg which means that his average Cost price = 50/1.25 = 40 per kg.
Let us assume that he buys X kgs at 60 per kg. Total cost = 60X +Β 30*25 = 60X +Β 750.
This cost is also equal to 40*(X+30) = 40X +Β 1200.
Equating both we get: X = 22.5 kgs.
