Question 21

If $$\frac{a}{b} = \frac{4}{3}$$ and $$\frac{p}{q}=\frac{9}{14}$$, the value of $$\frac{3ap - bq}{4bq - 7ap}$$ is

Let us write A=4X and B=3X. and P=9Y and Q=14Y.

3ap-bq will be 3(4X)(9Y)-(3X)(14Y)=108XY-42XY=66XY.

4bq-7ap will be 4(3X)(14Y)-7(4X)(9Y)=168XY-252XY=-84XY

Ratio will hence be -11:14
