A tube can fill a tank completely in 18 hours. After half the tank is filled. one more similar tube is opened. What is the total time taken to fill the tank completely?
Solution
If a tube can completely fill a tank in 18 hrs then half the tank will be filled in 9 hrs.
For the remaining half, now 2 pipes started working. So, the remaining half will be filled in 9/2 = 4.5 hrs.
Total time taken to completely fill the tank = 9+4.5 = 13 hrs 30 mins.
