The average of four consecutive odd numbers A. B. C and D respectively is 40. What is the product of B and D ?

Solution

Let the four consecutive odd integers be n-3,n-1,n+1,n+3

Sum of the integers = 4n = $$ 4 \times 40$$

Hence n = 40

Thus b = n-1 = 39 and d = n+3 = 43

product = $$ 39 \times 43 $$ = 1677
