Solution

The pattern followed is that for $$a^2-b=a-b$$

Eg = $$4^2-2=4-2=2$$

and $$3^2-3=3-3=0$$

and $$9^2-1=9-1=8$$

Similarly, $$8^2-4=8-4=4$$
