first difference

$$9 - 8 = 1$$                        

$$12 - 9 = 3$$                         

$$19 - 12 = 7$$                           

$$34 - 19 = 15$$                           



second difference 

3 - 1 = 2 

7 - 3 = 4

15 - 7 = 8 

15 + 16 = 31

now add 31 to 34

34 + 31 = 65
