What must be added to each term of the ratio 2 : 5 so that it may equal to 5 : 6 ?

Solution

let the number added to both numerator and denominator be y

It is given that :

$$\frac{2+y}{5+y}$$ = $$\frac{5}{6}$$

=>12 + 6y = 25 + 5y

=> y = 13
