Let V and S be Vishal's and Shekhar's present age.

V - 8 = 4(S - 8) ... (1)

V + 8 = 2(S + 8) ... (2)

V = 2(S + 8) - 8 ... (3)

Put Eq(3) in Eq(1).

2(S + 8) - 8 - 8 = 4(S - 8)

2S + 16 -16 = 4S - 32

4S-2S = 32

2S = 32

S = 16

Put the value of S in Eq.(3)

V = 2(16 + 8) - 8 = 48-8 = 40

On solving we can say that V = 40 years and S = 16 years. Hence, option A is the correct answer.
