The average age of a man and his son is 28 years. The ratio of their ages is 3 : 1 respectively. What Is the man’s age ?
Solution
Let man's age = $$3x$$ years
Sons's age = $$x$$ years
=> $$(3x + x) = 2 \times 28$$
=> $$4x = 56$$
=> $$x = \frac{56}{4} = 14$$
$$\therefore$$ Man's age = 3 * 14 = 42 years
