Some carpenters promised to do a job in 15 days but 3 of them were absent and remaining did the job in 20 days. What was the original number of carpenters?
Solution
Let original number of carpenters = $$x$$
Using, $$M_1D_1=M_2D_2$$
=> $$x\times15=(x-3)\times20$$
=> $$15x=20x-60$$
=> $$20x-15x=60$$
=> $$x=\frac{60}{5}=12$$
$$\therefore$$ Original number of carpenters = 12
