Give answer a: if the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
Give answer b: if the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
Give answer c: if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
Give answer d: if the data given in both the statements I & II together are not sufficient to answer the question, and
Give answer e: if the data in both the statements I & II together are necessary to answer the question.
How many students are there between Suresh and Mohan in a row of fifty students ?
I. Suresh is twelfth from the left end Mohan is seventeeth from the right end.
II. Suresh is six places away from Jayesh who is twentieth from the left end.
I : Suresh's position from left end = 12th
Mohan's position from right end = 17th
=> Mohan's position from left end = (50+1) - 17 = 34th
Thus, there are (34-12-1) = 21 students between Suresh and Mohan
Thus, statement I alone is sufficient.
II : There is no information about Mohan, thus it is insufficient.
$$\therefore$$ Statement I alone is sufficient.
