Question 136

If 50% of (x - y) = 30% of (x + y), then what per cent of x is y?

Solution

Expression : 50% of (x - y) = 30% of (x + y)

=> $$\frac{50}{100} (x - y) = \frac{30}{100} (x + y)$$

=> $$5x - 5y = 3x + 3y$$

=> $$2x = 8y$$

=> $$\frac{y}{x} = \frac{1}{4}$$

$$\therefore \frac{y}{x}\% = \frac{1}{4} * 100 = 25\%$$
