Question 135

If the numerator of a certain fraction increased by 200% and the denominator is increased by 150% the new fraction thus fromed is 9/10. What is the original fraction?

Solution

Let the original fraction = $$\frac{x}{y}$$

$$\therefore \frac{x \times 300}{y \times 250} = \frac{9}{10}$$

=> $$\frac{x \times 6}{y \times 5} = \frac{9}{10}$$

=> $$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{9}{10} \times \frac{5}{6}$$

=> $$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{3}{4}$$
