Solution

Ratio of cost price and selling price of an article = 5 : 3

Let Cost price = $$x=5$$ and selling price = $$y=3$$

=> Loss % = $$\frac{(x-y)}{x}\times100$$

= $$\frac{(5-3)}{5}\times100$$

= $$2\times20=40\%$$

=> Ans - (A)
