Question 109

Present ages of father and the son are in the ratio of 6:1 respectively Four years hence the ratio of their ages will become 4:1 respectively What is the son’s present age ?

Solution

Let the age of the father be F and the age of the son be S.
So, F:S = 6:1 or F = 6S

Four years later, their respective ages will be F+4 and S+4.
So, (F+4):(S+4)=4:1
So, (6S+4):(S+4)=4:1
Therefore, 6S+4 = 4S+16 or 2S=12 or S=6

Hence, the current age of the son is 6 years.
