Question 106

What number should be subtracted from both the terms of the ratio 11 : 15 so as to make it as 2 : 3 ?

Solution

let the term of 11y and 15y

and assume that we are subtracting z from each term .So,

$$\frac{11y-z}{15y-z}$$ = $$\frac{2}{3}$$

33y - 3z = 30y - 2z

z = 3y

So we can say that the Z should be a multiple of 3 and hence the Number subtracted is "3"
