Question 102

DIRECTION for the question: Solve the following question and mark the best possible option.

The ratio of the ages of a man and his wife is 4 : 3. After 4 years, th is ratio will be 9 : 7. If at the time of their marriage, the ratio of their ages was 5 : 3, then how many years ago were they married?

Let us assume their current ages to be 4x and 3x respectively.
After 4 years, the ratio becomes 9:7
==>Β $$\frac{4x+4}{3x+4}=\frac{9}{7}$$
==> x = 8.
Present ages of the man and his wife are 32 and 24 respectively.
Let y years ago, they had their marriage and the ratio of their ages was 5:3.
$$\frac{32-y}{24-y}=\frac{5}{3}$$
==> y = 12 years.
