Question 10

The average of three numbers is 40. First number is 4/3 of the third number. If third number is 20 less than second number, then what is the value of second number?

Solution

Let the third number = $$3x$$

=> First number = $$\frac{4}{3}\times3x=4x$$

Second number = $$3x+20$$

Sum of the three numbers = $$40\times3=120$$

According to ques,

=> $$(3x)+(4x)+(3x+20)=120$$

=> $$10x=120-20=100$$

=> $$x=\frac{100}{10}=10$$

$$\therefore$$ Second number = $$(3\times10)+20=50$$

=> Ans - (B)
