NMTC Syllabus 2026
The 58th National Mathematics Talent Contest is here. Although the exam syllabus might look like a textbook, the questions will test your kids' analytical skills. However, this contest is conducted in 4 levels covering Classes 5 to 12. AMTI's current 2026 event listing gives 20 July 2026 as the application deadline. So, schools, parents, or students, please start your registration as soon as possible. Start brushing up on your Mathematics concepts as soon as possible. But before you do, check the following NMTC syllabus 2026 to ensure you are on the right path.
NMTC Syllabus 2026 for Classes 5th And 6th
Students in Classes 5 and 6 appear for the Primary Gauss Contest. The NMTC 2026 syllabus at this level builds a strong understanding of arithmetic and geometry.
Subject Area | Important Topics |
Arithmetic | Fractions, percentages, profit and loss, divisibility tests |
Number Skills | LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, calendar problems |
Mensuration | Triangles, quadrilaterals, circles and related measurements |
Algebra | Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division expressions |
Geometry | Straight lines, parallel lines, angles and polygons |
The Primary level also expects students to connect different ideas within one problem. Regular practice can make these questions feel less unfamiliar during timed solving.
NMTC Syllabus 2026 for Class 7th And 8th
Classes 7 and 8 compete in the Sub-Junior Kaprekar Contest. The NMTC 2026 syllabus includes every Primary-level topic, along with several new areas.
Subject Area | Important Topics |
Arithmetic | Square roots, cube roots, averages, allegation |
Applications | Time and work, time and distance, races, circular travel |
Mensuration | Cubes, cuboids, spheres, cones, cylinders, pyramids |
Algebra | Linear and quadratic equations, identities, factorisation |
Advanced Algebra | Laws of indices and basic surds |
Geometry | Triangle inequalities, parallelograms, trapezoids, Pythagoras theorem |
Number Theory | Prime numbers, composite numbers, divisibility |
Logical questions in basic mathematics also form an important preparation area. Solving puzzles regularly can improve accuracy when direct formulas do not provide quick answers.
NMTC Syllabus for Class 9th & 10th
Classes 9 and 10 participate in the Junior Bhaskara Contest. The syllabus includes earlier concepts, then moves toward stronger algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.
Subject Area | Important Topics |
Algebra | Quadratic equations, higher-degree equations, remainder theorem |
Advanced Algebra | Logarithms, sequences, series, induction, inequalities |
Geometry | Circle theorems, chords, arcs, cyclic quadrilaterals |
Geometry Applications | Tangents, alternate segment theorem, Apollonius theorem |
Number Theory | Modular arithmetic, greatest and least integer functions |
Combinatorics | Counting principle, permutations, combinations |
Problem Solving | Inclusion-exclusion principle, pigeonhole principle |
At this level, understanding why a method works becomes more useful than memorising formulas. Students should practise problems that require two or three connected ideas.
NMTC Syllabus for Class 11th & 12th
Classes 11 and 12 compete in the Inter Ramanujan Contest. The NMTC syllabus 2026 extends the Junior syllabus with advanced mathematical concepts.
Subject Area | Important Topics |
Algebra | Polynomials, inequalities, C-S inequality, functional equations |
Geometry | Trigonometric, vector, coordinate, and complex-number methods |
Number Theory | Fermat theorem, Wilson theorem, Diophantine equations |
Combinatorics | Counting techniques and recurrence relations |
Students should connect concepts instead of treating every chapter separately. The final-level paper reflects higher mathematical thinking and can include Olympiad-style problem approaches.
NMTC Exam Pattern 2026
The NMTC exam pattern 2026 has two stages for school-level participants. The screening test comes first, followed by the final examination for shortlisted candidates.
Stage | Date | Timing | Questions | Pattern / Details |
Screening Test | 30 August 2026 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon | 20 | Primary, Gauss Contest; objective type |
Screening Test | 30 August 2026 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon | 30 | Sub-Junior, Kaprekar Contest; objective type |

Screening Difficulty | 30 August 2026 | 2 hours | — | 20% moderate and 80% higher-level questions |
Final Test | 25 October 2026 | 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM | Maximum 8 | Subjective questions for shortlisted candidates |
Final Test Syllabus | 25 October 2026 | 3 hours | — | Concepts reflecting IOQM, RMO, and INMO syllabi |
Preliminary Results | 7 September 2026 | — | — | Top 10% selected at each school-level category |
Final Results | First week of December 2026 | — | — | Results announced by AMTI |
The screening test will be conducted through participating schools for eligible school-level groups. The top 10% from each level will proceed toward the final stage, according to AMTI instructions.
The examination medium remains English for every NMTC level. The 2026 contest is organised by the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India.
Important Topics in the NMTC 2026 Syllabus
The right topics deserve extra attention because NMTC questions focus strongly on problem-solving skills. Preparation should therefore combine syllabus coverage with regular non-routine practice.
Level | Topics That Need Strong Practice |
Classes 5-6 | Fractions, ratios, divisibility, geometry, percentages |
Classes 7-8 | Algebra, mensuration, roots, time-work, number theory |
Classes 9-10 | Quadratics, circle geometry, modular arithmetic, combinatorics |
Classes 11-12 | Inequalities, functional equations, number theory, recurrence |
A practical preparation approach starts with school concepts and then adds challenging problems. Solving one difficult problem carefully can teach more than rushing through several routine questions.
