NMTC 2026 Answer Key

AMTI held the Stage 1 test of the 58th National Mathematics Talent Contest on 30 August 2026. The exam was from 10 AM to 12 noon and was written offline in schools.

AMTI does not put out a public answer key after Stage 1. Schools correct the papers as per AMTI's rules, and AMTI simply announces the list of selected students. So students are left waiting without knowing their score.

Our maths teachers solved the Stage 1 papers on the day of the exam. We have made answer keys for the Primary, Sub-Junior and Junior levels. These keys are made by us, not by AMTI. AMTI's own evaluation is final.

One small warning. NMTC questions are not like school questions, and the same problem can be solved in more than one way. If your answer does not match ours, solve that question again before deciding you got it wrong.

How to Calculate Your Score Using the NMTC Answer Key 2026?

Keep your NMTC 2026 Question Paper and rough sheet with you. Most students still remember what they marked, and in many centres, students take the paper home.

Here is what to do:

1. Write down your answer for every question, including the ones you left blank.
2. Match each one with the key. Mark it right, wrong or skipped.
3. Use the marking scheme below. Do not forget the negative marks.
4. Add the plus marks and subtract the minus marks.

The marks per question are printed on the first page of your paper, so check that once, as it can change with the level.

Here is a small example. A Junior student gets 14 questions right. He gets 6 wrong in Part A and 4 wrong in Part B. The rest are blank.

Score = 14 − (6 × 0.5) − (4 × 0.25) = 10 marks.

Six wrong guesses ate up three correct answers. Keep that in mind for next time.

NMTC 2026 Expected Cutoff

AMTI has never given out a cutoff mark. It only gives a list of selected students. Around the top 10% of students at each level are called for the Final Test.

Since the list depends on how everyone else did, the cutoff changes every year. It moves with the difficulty of the paper and the number of students who wrote it.

The numbers below are only our estimate, based on how NMTC papers have gone in past years.

How your centre performs also matters. So if your score falls in the borderline range, it is not a no. It is just not certain yet.

What After the NMTC 2026 Answer Key?

If your score is above the safe range, start on Stage 2 right away. The Final Test on 25 October 2026 is three hours long and fully written. There are no options and no negative marking. You have to write full solutions with proper steps.

Most of the paper comes from number theory, geometry, algebra and combinatorics. The best way to get used to it is to solve NMTC Previous Year Papers of the Final Test for your level. Write the complete solution on paper. Do not just look at the answer and move on. Marks are given for the steps you write, so writing practice matters as much as solving.

If your score is in the borderline range, prepare anyway. Six weeks of practice will not go waste either way. Selected students also get a certificate, and that certificate works as the hall ticket for the Final Test.

If your score is low, at least you now know exactly where you stand. Students who start practising in September do much better next year than students who start after registration closes.

NMTC 2026 Stage 1 Result Date

The Stage 1 NMTC Result is expected in the first week of September 2026. Most reports point to 7 September. AMTI sends the list to schools and also puts it up in the Results section on amtionline.com.

Schools handle the registration, so the result usually reaches you through your school. If you cannot find your name online, ask your school coordinator first.

One more point for older students. Class 11 and 12 students write the Ramanujan Contest, and degree students at the Senior level go straight to Stage 2 without writing the screening test.
