What is the effective way to read Aeon essay? Should we summarize each para like we do for RCs? Its taking around 1hr to complete an essay.

For finding if the set of three linear equations (each with three variables) have a consistent solution, the method that is being followed is the Discriminant method - some matrics method - i am a NE from humanities background - finding it difficult to grasp - is there any alternate method? For e.g. this question (below):
