BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2027: Passing Year & PCM Rules

BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2027

BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2027 explains the academic qualifications, Class 12 marks, subject requirements, and passing-year conditions students need to check before applying for admission to BITS Pilani. Engineering aspirants planning to pursue B.E. programmes at the Pilani, Goa, or Hyderabad campuses should review the eligibility requirements carefully.

As per the previous admission rules, candidates applying for most B.E. programmes needed at least 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), along with a minimum of 60% in each subject. Candidates also needed to meet the Class 12 qualification and passing-year requirements. The official BITSAT 2027 admission brochure will confirm the final eligibility criteria.

Students can start preparing for the examination alongside checking their eligibility. Taking a BITSAT mock test can help you assess your preparation level and identify topics that need more practice.

Eligibility FactorRequirement Based on Previous Rules
Educational QualificationPassed or appearing for Class 12, subject to the permitted passing-year conditions
Recognised BoardA recognised Central or State board or equivalent qualification
Compulsory Subjects for Most B.E. ProgrammesPhysics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
PCM AggregateAt least 75% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics combined
Individual Subject MarksAt least 60% in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
Number of SubjectsAt least five subjects, including PCM, one language, and one additional subject
English ProficiencyAdequate proficiency in English
Admission BasisBITSAT performance and fulfilment of the applicable admission requirements
Existing BITS StudentsStudents already enrolled in a BITS first-degree programme are generally not eligible to apply again

Note: These requirements are based on previous admission rules and are subject to confirmation in the official BITSAT 2027 brochure.

BITSAT 2027 PCM Eligibility Criteria for Engineering

Students applying for most B.E. programmes at BITS Pilani must check their Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Under the previous admission criteria, candidates needed a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in PCM and at least 60% marks in each of the three subjects.

The following table explains the minimum marks requirement under the previous rules.

Subject or RequirementMinimum Marks
Physics60%
Chemistry60%
Mathematics60%
Combined PCM Aggregate75%
Class 12 QualificationPassed or appearing, subject to the applicable passing-year rules

Candidates should also verify the minimum subject requirements and the rules for calculating aggregate marks in the official admission brochure.

How to Calculate the PCM Aggregate Percentage

To calculate your PCM aggregate percentage, add the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, then divide the total by the maximum marks available in those three subjects and multiply by 100.

Formula:

PCM Aggregate = (Total marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics ÷ Maximum marks in all three subjects) × 100

Example:

Suppose a student obtains the following marks:

SubjectMarks ObtainedMaximum Marks
Physics75100
Chemistry80100
Mathematics85100
Total240300

PCM aggregate = (240 ÷ 300) × 100 = 80%

The student meets the previous 75% PCM aggregate requirement and has at least 60% marks in each subject.

Candidates should include the applicable theory and practical marks while calculating their percentages, in accordance with the official rules. Check your individual subject marks as well as your overall PCM aggregate before applying.

Is 75% Required for BITSAT 2027?

Under the previous eligibility criteria for most B.E. programmes, candidates needed at least 75% aggregate marks in PCM and a minimum of 60% in each PCM subject. The 75% requirement applies to the combined Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics marks, not the overall Class 12 percentage.

The following examples explain how the previous marks criteria were applied.

Class 12 MarksEligibility Under Previous Marks Criteria
75% or more in PCM and 60% or more in each subjectMeets the minimum marks criteria
80% overall but 72% in PCMDoes not meet the PCM aggregate requirement
74.90% in PCMDoes not meet the 75% requirement
75% in PCM but 58% in ChemistryDoes not meet the individual subject requirement

Important: A PCM aggregate of 74.90% does not qualify by rounding it up to 75%. Candidates considering improvement examinations should check the official rules for accepted attempts, qualifying years, and result submission deadlines.

Can Droppers Apply for BITSAT 2027?

Yes, students who have taken a gap year may be eligible for BITSAT 2027, provided they satisfy the applicable Class 12 passing-year, subject, and marks requirements. However, eligibility depends on the specific rules announced for the 2027 admission cycle.

Under the previous admission rules, candidates who appeared for Class 12 in 2026 or passed in 2025 were eligible for BITSAT 2026, subject to the other conditions. These years should not be treated as the qualifying years for BITSAT 2027.

Candidate CategoryEligibility Guidance
Appearing for Class 12 in 2027Check the permitted first-attempt and qualifying-year rules
Passed Class 12 in 2026Check whether the passing year is accepted for BITSAT 2027
Passed Class 12 in 2025 or earlierVerify eligibility in the official 2027 brochure
Taking Improvement ExaminationsFollow the applicable improvement examination conditions
Already Enrolled in a BITS First-Degree ProgrammeGenerally not eligible to apply again

Droppers should verify their passing year, calculate their PCM aggregate, and check whether improvement examination results will be accepted. Taking a gap year does not automatically make a candidate eligible or ineligible.

Who Is Eligible for BITSAT 2027?

Students who have passed or are appearing for Class 12 may be eligible for BITSAT 2027, depending on their subjects, marks, and qualifying year. The requirements also differ according to the programme selected.

For most B.E. programmes, students should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and meet the prescribed aggregate and individual subject marks.

Student CategoryEligibility Guidance
Class 12 student with PCMEligible if all academic and qualifying-year requirements are met
Class 12 pass-out with the required PCM marksEligible if the passing year is permitted
DropperEligible if all applicable conditions are met
Student with less than 75% in PCMDoes not meet the previous aggregate marks criteria for most B.E. programmes
Student with less than 60% in any PCM subjectDoes not meet the previous individual subject marks criteria for most B.E. programmes
Student with PCB but without MathematicsMay be eligible for B.Pharm. or B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, subject to programme-specific criteria
Student already enrolled in a BITS first-degree programmeGenerally not eligible to apply again

Students with Biology instead of Mathematics should check the specific eligibility requirements for B.Pharm. and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering. PCB eligibility does not automatically extend to other B.E. programmes.

BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2027: Conclusion

BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2027 helps students understand the Class 12 qualifications, subject combinations, minimum marks, and passing-year requirements for admission to BITS Pilani. Under the previous rules for most B.E. programmes, candidates needed at least 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with a minimum of 60% in each subject. Droppers and students appearing for improvement examinations should also check the applicable qualifying-year conditions.

Before applying, read the official BITSAT 2027 admission brochure to confirm the final eligibility requirements for your preferred programme. Calculate your PCM aggregate carefully, verify your individual subject marks, and check whether your Class 12 passing year is accepted. Once you confirm your eligibility, begin practising with mock tests and revise regularly to prepare effectively for BITSAT 2027.
