Private engineering education does not always require an extremely high tuition budget. However, the word affordable must be used carefully because fees differ by branch, campus and scholarship status. This guide compares selected private universities using the fee information published on their official websites for the 2026 admission cycle.
The comparison below uses four-year academic or programme tuition before scholarship wherever an exact fee is available. Hostel, mess, transport, examination and one-time charges are excluded unless stated otherwise. Scholarship-adjusted fees are shown separately so that they are not confused with the standard fee.
Affordable Private Engineering Colleges in India 2026
The colleges in the main comparison table are explained in the same order in the detailed sections below. Unverified average-package ranges and recruiter claims have been excluded because they were not supported by a consistent, branch-specific placement report.

Top Private Engineering Colleges with Comparatively Low Fees
The following sections use the same five colleges listed in the main table. This avoids the earlier mismatch in which one college appeared in the comparison table while a different college was explained below it.
1. SASTRA Deemed University
SASTRA is one of the clearest standard-fee options in this list. Its official fee page publishes B.Tech tuition of ₹85,000 per semester and states that the tuition rises by 5% annually from the second year. Based on that schedule, the approximate four-year tuition is ₹7.33 lakh. The university also lists ₹1,000 per year for sports and unit tests, a one-time development fee of ₹10,000 and one-time special and registration charges of ₹6,000.
For B.Tech admissions, SASTRA follows two streams. Stream 1 fills 70% of seats using JEE Main scores and Class 12 marks, while Stream 2 fills 30% using Class 12 marks. SASTRA should therefore not be described as accepting students through either JEE Main or board merit in an unrestricted manner; the two routes have separate seat shares.

2. GLA University, Mathura
GLA University's official 2026 fee page gives year-wise academic fees instead of a broad estimate. For the regular B.Tech Computer Science programme at the Mathura campus, the published fees are ₹2.08 lakh in the first year, ₹2.16 lakh in the second year, ₹2.24 lakh in the third year and ₹2.32 lakh in the fourth year. The four-year academic fee is therefore ₹8.80 lakh.
This figure should not be applied to every GLA engineering programme. Specialised CSE programmes can cost more. For example, the official CSE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning page lists a four-year total of ₹10.10 lakh. Students must check the exact branch rather than using one university-wide fee.

3. Lovely Professional University
LPU should not be shown as an ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh college without explaining the scholarship condition. The official 2026 B.Tech CSE page lists a programme fee of ₹1.60 lakh per semester. The standard programme fee is therefore ₹12.80 lakh over eight semesters. The page also lists an examination fee of ₹5,000 per semester and a one-time uniform fee of ₹4,000.
LPU offers scholarships based on LPUNEST and other listed criteria. A 30% scholarship would reduce the ₹12.80 lakh programme fee to approximately ₹8.96 lakh, while a 50% scholarship would reduce it to approximately ₹6.40 lakh, subject to the university's scholarship terms and continuation requirements. These are calculated scholarship-adjusted amounts, not the standard fee.

4. Chandigarh University
Chandigarh University publishes programme-specific fees, so one fee should not be presented as the cost of every engineering branch. Students must open the relevant B.E. programme page and check the current semester fee, examination fee, security deposit and any additional programme charges.
For 2026 admissions, CUCET is the university's eligibility and scholarship test. The official CUCET information states that candidates with more than 90% in Class 12 or a JEE Main rank up to 50,000 may be exempt from CUCET. The university's Phase II scholarship slabs range from 10% to 100% based on the CUCET score, subject to the programme rules. Because both standard fees and scholarships are programme-specific, the final four-year cost must be calculated only after selecting a branch.

5. SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat
This entry refers specifically to SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Haryana, not SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Tamil Nadu. The official 2026-27 fee page lists ₹1.75 lakh per year for B.Tech Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. The four-year tuition for these branches is therefore approximately ₹7 lakh.
The same fee page lists ₹3 lakh per year for regular B.Tech CSE, making its four-year tuition approximately ₹12 lakh before scholarship. Robotics and Automation is ₹2.50 lakh per year. The university also publishes merit and JEE Main-based scholarship slabs, but students should check whether a scholarship applies for one year or for the full programme and what CGPA is required for continuation.

Private Engineering Colleges Under ₹10 Lakhs
On the published fee basis used in this article, the following options have a standard four-year tuition below ₹10 lakh. Scholarship-dependent examples are kept separate.
College and Programme | Approximate Four-Year Tuition | Fee Type |
SASTRA B.Tech | ₹7.33 lakh | Standard tuition calculated with the published annual increase |
GLA University B.Tech CSE | ₹8.80 lakh | Standard academic fee |
SRM University Delhi-NCR core B.Tech branches | ₹7 lakh | Standard tuition for listed core branches |
LPU B.Tech CSE may fall below ₹10 lakh after a qualifying scholarship, but its standard programme fee is ₹12.80 lakh. Chandigarh University's final cost depends on the selected programme fee and the CUCET scholarship awarded.
Affordable Private Engineering Colleges Accepting JEE Main
JEE Main can play different roles at private universities. It may form part of the admission calculation, provide an exemption from a university test or determine scholarship eligibility. It should not be described as the sole admission route unless the university explicitly states this for the selected programme.
College | How JEE Main Is Used |
SASTRA Deemed University | JEE Main score and Class 12 marks are used together for Stream 1, which covers 70% of seats |
Lovely Professional University | JEE Main may be used under the programme's admission or scholarship criteria; check the selected B.Tech page |
Chandigarh University | A JEE Main rank up to 50,000 is listed as one route for exemption from CUCET |
SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat | JEE Main percentile is used in the published scholarship table |
Candidates can use JEE Mains Mock Tests to assess preparation, improve time management and identify weak areas before the exam.

How to Compare Fees and Placements Correctly
A college-wide highest package does not describe the outcome of a typical engineering student. Before comparing placement performance, look for the latest official report and check the graduating batch, programme, branch, number of eligible students, number placed, median salary and average salary. Do not combine a highest package from one year with an average package from another year.
Use the following formula for a realistic cost estimate:
Total four-year cost = tuition after an eligible scholarship + examination and one-time charges + hostel and mess + transport and personal expenses.
Also confirm whether the scholarship continues automatically or requires a minimum CGPA, attendance level or conduct standard. A scholarship shown for the first year should not be multiplied across all four years unless the policy explicitly allows renewal.
Scholarships Available at Private Engineering Colleges
Private universities may offer scholarships based on entrance-test scores, Class 12 marks, JEE Main performance, sports achievements or other institutional criteria. The amount, duration and renewal conditions differ across colleges.
- SASTRA: Students can explore eligible government and institutional support schemes after checking the official rules.
- GLA University: Scholarship eligibility should be checked on the 2026 admission page for the selected programme.
- LPU: The official programme page lists scholarship slabs based on LPUNEST and other criteria.
- Chandigarh University: CUCET scores determine the published scholarship slab for eligible programmes.
- SRM University Delhi-NCR: The university lists scholarships based on Class 12 marks, JEE Main percentile, SAT score and other categories.
Students may also check the National Scholarship Portal and relevant state scholarship portals. Eligibility for a government scholarship does not guarantee that it can be combined with a university scholarship.
Affordable Private Engineering Colleges in India 2026: Conclusion
SASTRA, GLA University and selected core engineering branches at SRM University Delhi-NCR have published standard tuition below ₹10 lakh on the fee basis used in this article. LPU can move below this level only after a qualifying scholarship, while Chandigarh University's final cost must be calculated from the selected programme fee and CUCET scholarship. This distinction makes the comparison more accurate than mixing standard fees with scholarship-adjusted amounts.
Before paying an admission or counselling fee, verify the exact branch, campus, current fee, scholarship renewal rules and refund policy on the official university website. Compare the complete four-year cost and branch-specific placement report instead of choosing a college from a single fee or highest-package figure.
