Sir/ Mam, I started my preparation for CAT in last week of June. So far given 3 mock test.I am able to understand concepts and attempt questions in concept test as well as study room accurately. However, when it comes to mock, not only the rate of attempt but that of accuracy is also way too low. This even happened last year in CAT 2021 actual exam, which led to 60%ile in Verbal, 95.95%ile in DILR & 22.18%ile in Quant. Kindly guide.

Hi Harshita Patel, Mock analysis would be a good way to identify the root cause of the stated issue. While analysing mocks, pay attention to the sections where you underperform. For instance, if you struggle with VARC, go through each RC and non-RC question. Try to understand the reasons behind your mistake: Did I not understand the RC? Did I understand the RC but got confused with the question? Did I understand both the RC and the question but found the options troublesome? Or was it all of the above? This sort of bifurcation will help you know the amount of time you will have to put in before your next attempt. In the earlier cases, if you had trouble with all of the above, you would need to work on your comprehension: Reading more, Practising more RCs and so on. Similarly, for the QA section, you can do a similar analysis. Pay attention to the questions you skipped or attempted incorrectly. Then see if you could have attempted other easier questions to save time or increase your accuracy. Check if there are any gaps in your conceptual understanding that caused you to make mistakes: if yes, then proceed to strengthen the concepts. You can develop your own strategies based on your analysis. Make sure you take a full hour or two to go through everything. Check the matrix graphs to identify your weaker areas that need improvement and to come up with a way to capitalize on your strengths. {For example, if you find non-RC questions easy, attempt these in the first 15 minutes and then solve the RCs} You need to tailor your strategy in a way that produces the maximum benefit. Giving mocks incessantly without any specific vision or intention to improve is counterproductive. One or two mocks a week, coupled with sectionals and daily questions, and followed by thorough analysis, would be ideal. We hope this helps! All the best!"

While solving the mock questions(QA) the ones which i got wrong or unattempted should I do them until I solve them by my self - assuming that I know the concept but not getting how to start - or i give a time limit in thinking for the approach and see the solution immediately

Hi Varshith Yelleti,When attempting a mock or sectional, don't put in much time for such questions. When analysing the mock/sectional and going through all the unattempted questions, try to solve them if you know the procedure. If you are not getting any idea or don't know where to start, you can check the solution and bookmark the question for future reference. Go through the questions you bookmarked before attempting next mock/sectional.Hope this helps!
