Question 99

600 meters long train is running at the speed of 72 kmph. If it crosses a tunnel in 1 minute. then the length of the tunnel (in meters) is

Solution

Let length of the tunnel  = x

Length of the train = 600 m

Speed of the train = 72 km/h = 72 x $$\frac{1000}{3600}$$ m/sec = 20 m/sec

Time = 1 min = 60 sec

Speed = $$\frac{\text{distance}}{\text{time}}$$

$$\Rightarrow$$  20 = $$\frac{600+\text{x}}{60}$$

$$\Rightarrow$$  x + 600 = 1200

$$\Rightarrow$$  x = 600 m

$$\therefore\ $$Length of the tunnel = 600 m
