What is the equation of the line which passes through the points (2,3) and (-4,1)?

Solution

Equation of line passing thorough points $$(x_1 , y_1)$$ and $$(x_2 , y_2)$$ = $$(y - y_1) = \frac{(y_2 - y_1)}{(x_2 - x_1)} (x - x_1)$$

Points given = (2,3) and (-4,1)

=> Equation of line = $$(y - 3) = \frac{(1 - 3)}{(-4 - 2)} (x - 2)$$

=> $$(y - 3) = \frac{1}{3} (x - 2)$$

=> $$3y - 9 = x - 2$$

=> $$x - 3y = -9 + 2 = -7$$
