If $$x^{2}-5x-24=0$$, then find the value of x

Solution

$$x^{2}-5x-24=0$$

So, $$x^{2}-8x + 3x -24=0$$

ie x(x- 8) + 3(x-8) = 0

=> (x+3)(x-8)=0

or x = 8 or -3
