Shams-ud-din Iltutmish was the most prominent ruler of the Mamluk, or Slave, Dynasty, which governed the Delhi Sultanate following Qutb-ud-din Aibak. He strengthened administration, introduced the silver tanka and copper jital, and consolidated the sultanate. The other rulers listed belong to different periods: Sher Shah Suri established the Sur Empire, Ghori laid the foundations of the early Delhi Sultanate, and Humayun ruled during the Mughal era.
