Question 75

In what ratio must water be mixed with milk to gain 30% by selling the mixture at cost price:

Let us assume that water and milk are mixed in K : 1 i.e. K litres of water is mixed with 1 litre of milk.
Let us assume that the cost price of milk is Rs 1 per litre. This mixture of K+1 litres is also sold at the price of milk i.e. Rs 1 per litre.
So, CP = Rs 1 and SP = Rs K+1.
As he gains 30%, 1.3*CP = SPΒ
==> 1.3 * 1 = K + 1Β
==> K = 0.3.
So, the ratio of water to milkΒ i.e. K : 1 becomes 3:10.
