Question 74

The average age of fifteen persons is 32 years. If two more persons are added then the average is increased by 3 years. The new persons have an age difference of 11 years between them. The age (in years) of the younger among the new persons is:

Solution

let the age of younger person is  $$x$$ and older person is $$y$$

According to Question

$$\therefore y - x =11$$

Given that,

initially 15 people are there and their avg. age is 32 yrs .

when $$x$$ and $$y$$ get included then avg. becomes 35 yrs, So

$$\therefore  \frac{15\times 32  + x + y}{17} = 35 $$

$$\Rightarrow 15 \times 32 + x + y = 17 \times 35 $$

$$\Rightarrow 480 + x + y = 595$$

$$\Rightarrow x + y =595 - 480 = 115$$

By solving Both Equations, we get

$$\Rightarrow x = 52 $$ yrs
