Ram cycles 5 km in the south, and turns left to travel 5 km further. From there, he takes a left turn and travels 5 km more. How far(shortest distance) is he from his original position?

Solution

Let Ram start from point A and travels 5 km towards the south to reach B, and then takes a left, and travels 5 km to reach C. Again, he takes a left and travels 5 km northwards and finally stop at point D.

Thus, he is 5 km from his original position.
