Rathin is now 16 years old while his cousin is 7 years. After how many years will Rathin’s age be 1.5 times that of his cousin?

Solution

Present age of Rathin = 16 years.

Present age of his Cousin = 7 years.

Let x be the number of years after which Rathin's age will be 1.5 times of his cousin's age.

16 + x = 1.5 (7+x)

16 - 10.5 = 1.5x - x

5.5 = 0.5 x

x = $$\frac{5.5}{0.5}$$ = 11

Therefore, after 11 years Rathin's age will be 1.5 times his cousin's age.
