Question 69

A train takes 1 hour 20 minutes to travel between two stations, P and Q. If it travels at $$\frac{5}{6}$$ of its usual speed, how long will it take to travel between P and Q?

Solution

Let the speed of the train is 6 unit.

Decreased speed = $$6\times\ \frac{5}{6}=5\ unit$$

Speed ratio = 6 : 5

We know, time is inversely propotional to time.

Time ratio = 5 : 6

5 unit = 1 hr 20 min = 80 min

1 unit = $$\frac{80}{5}=\ 16$$

Required time = 6 unit

i.e; $$16\times\ 6=96\ \min=\ 1hr\ 36\ \min$$

Hence, Option C is correct.
