The difference between Charles’ and Shriya’s ages is 6 years. When they married each other 30 years ago, 4 times Charles’s age was the sameas 5 times the age of Shriya. What is the current sum of their ages?

Solution

Let Charle's age is $$x$$ years and Shriya's age is $$y$$ years

According to given conditions,

$$x-y=6$$

$$x=6+y$$ - equation $$1$$

and $$4\left(x-30\right)=5\left(y-30\right)$$

$$4x-120=5y-150$$

$$4x-5y+30=0$$ - equation $$2$$

by putting equation $$1$$ in equation $$2$$, we get

$$y=54$$

and $$x=60$$

thus sum of charle's age and shriya's age is $$=54+60$$

$$=114$$ years
