Question 66

If (a+b) = 6 and ab = $$\frac{16}{3}$$, then $$(a^3 + b^3)$$ is equal to:

Solution

(a+b) = 6

Cubing both side,

$$\left(a+b\right)^3=6^3$$

$$a^3+b^3+3ab\left(a+b\right)=216$$

$$a^3+b^3+3\times\ \frac{16}{3}\times\ 6=216$$

$$a^3+b^3=216-96=120$$
