Question 64

Simplify: $$8\frac{1}{3} \div \frac{5}{3} - \frac{1}{10}  of  2\frac{1}{2} + \frac{17}{4}$$

Solution

$$8\frac{1}{3}\div\frac{5}{3}-\frac{1}{10}\ of\ 2\frac{1}{2}+\frac{17}{4}$$

$$=\frac{25}{3}\div\frac{5}{3}-\frac{1}{10}\ of\ \frac{5}{2}+\frac{17}{4}.$$

$$=\frac{25}{3}\times\frac{3}{5}-\frac{1}{4}+\frac{17}{4}.$$

$$=5-\frac{1}{4}+\frac{17}{4}.$$

$$=-\frac{1}{4}+\frac{20+17}{4}.$$

$$=\frac{-1+37}{4}.$$

$$=\frac{36}{4}.$$

$$=9.$$

A is correct choice.
