A beaker contains acid and water in the ratio 1 : x. When 300 ml of the mixture and 150 ml of water are mixed, the ratio of acid and water becomes 2 : 5. What is the value of x?
Solution
In 300 ml of mixtureÂ
Volume of acid =$$\frac{1}{1+x}\times\ 300$$ and volume of water = $$\frac{x}{1+x}\times\ 300$$
Now as per condition $$\frac{300}{1+x}:\frac{300x+150}{1+x}=2:5$$
solving we get 1500 =600x+300
600x=1200
x=2
