Question 62

N is increased successively by 12.5% and 16%. If N = 400, then what is the value of the increase?

Solution

N = 400

N is increased successively by 12.5% and 16%.

Number become after two successive increase = N of (100+12.5)% of (100+16)%

= 400 of 112.5% of 116%

= $$400\times\frac{9}{8}\times\frac{116}{100}$$

= $$1\times\frac{9}{2}\times116$$

= $$9\times58$$

= 522

The value of the increase = 522-400

= 122
