Question 61

What is the length of the longest pole that can fit itself in a hall 60 feet long, 30 feet broad and 20 feet high?

Solution

As given in the question the shape of the hall is in the form of a cuboid. So the length of the longest pole is equal to the diagonal of the cuboid.

length of the longest pole = $$\sqrt{\ \left(Length\right)^2+\left(Width\right)^2+\left(Height\right)^2}$$

= $$\sqrt{\ \left(60\right)^2+\left(30\right)^2+\left(20\right)^2}$$

= $$\sqrt{\ 3600+900+400}$$

= $$\sqrt{\ 4900}$$

= 70 feet
