What will come in the place of question mark (?) in the following number series ?

Question 61

48, 23, ?, 4.25, 1.125

Solution

Each number is divided by 2 and then 1 is subtracted.

48 $$\times \frac{1}{2} - 1$$ = 23

23 $$\times \frac{1}{2} - 1$$ = 10.5

10.5 $$\times \frac{1}{2} - 1$$ = 4.25

4.25 $$\times \frac{1}{2} - 1$$ = 1.125
