In the figure, what is the value of $$\cot \theta ?$$

Solution

From the triangle,

PQ$$^2$$ + QR$$^2$$ = PR$$^2$$

$$\Rightarrow$$  8$$^2$$ + QR$$^2$$ = 17$$^2$$

$$\Rightarrow$$  64 + QR$$^2$$ = 289

$$\Rightarrow$$  QR$$^2$$ = 225

$$\Rightarrow$$  QR = 15 cm

$$\therefore\ $$ $$\cot\theta\ =\frac{\text{Adjacent side}}{\text{Opposite side}}=\frac{QR}{PQ}=\frac{15}{8}$$

Hence, the correct answer is Option C
