Question 54

Daughter's age is one-fourth of her father's age. Five years hence, she will be one-third of his age. Further after five years, what will be the ratio of her age to that of her father?

Solution

Let D be the daughter s age and F be the fathers age

ATQ

D =$$\frac{1}{4}F$$ .....1

after 5 years

D +5 = $$\frac{1}{3}(F + 5)$$.....2

put 1 in 2

$$\frac{1}{4}F$$+5 = $$\frac{1}{3}(F + 5)$$

D = 10 years

F = 40 years

so 5 years hence ,

D = 15 years

F = 45 years

Again 5 years after

D = 20 years

F = 50 years

ratio

$$D:F = 20:50 = 2:5$$
