The average height of a group of 12 students is 170 cm.

total height of a group of 12 students = $$12\times170$$

= 2040

Four students of heights 154 cm, 157 cm, 165 cm, and 172 cm left the group.

Sum of the height of remaining (12-4) students = 2040-(154+157+165+172)

= 2040-648

= 1392

New average height (in cm) of the group = $$\frac{1392}{8}$$

= 174 cm
