Question 52

If the sum of three consecutive odd numbers is 20 more than the first number. What is the middle number ?

Solution: Let us assume the three odd numbers be 2n+1, 2n+3 and 2n+5.

now as per information given:

sum of these three numbers = first number + 20

2n+1 + 2n+3 + 2n+5 = 2n+1 + 20

6n+9 = 2n+21

4n=12

n=3

Therefore the middle number is = 2n+3 = 2(3)+3= 9

Hence option E is correct option
