Let us assume that the average amount spent by each person = X Rs.
Sum of money spent by them = 10*X = 10X.
9 persons spent 40 each i.e. a total of 360 Rs.
The 10th person spent X + 18.
Total amount spent ==> 360 + X+18 = 10X
9X = 378
X = 42.
Thus, the total amount spent by them = 10X = 420 Rs.
