Question 48

The respective ratio of two numbers is 16 : 21. If the first number is increased by 30% and the second number is decreased by 20%, what will be the respective ratio of the first and the second number?

Solution

Let the numerator and denominator be x and y.
(x/y) = (16/21)
Now, if the first number is increased by 30% and the second number is decreased by 20% then the ratio is $$\frac{1.3*16}{0.8*21}$$
Which equals $$\frac{208}{168}$$
Which equals $$\frac{26}{21}$$

Option B is the correct answer.
