Question 47

In the following question below are given some statements followed by some conclusions based on those statements. Taking the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusion logically follows the given statements.
Statements:
I. Some red are wood.
II. No wood is bench.
Conclusions:
I. No bench is red.
II. No bench is wood.
III. Some red are bench.

Solution

Conclusion: I. No bench is red.

There is not any direct relationship between 'bench' and 'red'. Only we can definitely say that 'some red are not bench.'. So the given conclusion does not follow.

Conclusion: II. No bench is wood.

The given conclusion follows. Because it is clearly given in the venn diagram.

Conclusion: III. Some red are bench.

There is not any direct relationship between 'bench' and 'red'. Only we can definitely say that 'some red are not bench.'. So the given conclusion does not follow.

Here individually, Conclusion (I) and Conclusion (III) do not follow. But there are complementary pairs available which are making either-or case between them.

Hence Conclusion II and either I or III follow
